"Covering America, Covering Community Colleges" Fellowship
The Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media selected 11 journalists as Fellows for the fial cohort of its "Covering America, Covering Community Colleges'' Fellowship, a program aimed at supporting in-depth coverage of education issues related to community colleges. Journalists were put through a rigorous application process. The 11 Fellows gathered in New York City for two expense-paid conferences; the first in September 2009. They met with experts, discussed their projects with other journalists, conducted research and visited local colleges. The Fellows will return in the spring of 2010 to share their projects and what they have learned. Past Fellowship Projects can be viewed here. Support for the Fellowship comes from the Lumina Foundation for Education, an Indianapolis-based foundation that aims to help individuals achieve their potential by expanding access and success in education beyond high school. Support for the Fellowship also comes from the California-based The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
