The 2010 McGraw Seminar for Reporters New to the Education Beat

The 2010 McGraw Seminar for Reporters New to the Education Beat

July 16-18, 2010
Teachers College, Columbia University
New York

Application Deadline: June 11, 2010

Our annual Seminar for Reporters New to the Education Beat is an overview of the current issues facing education in America. Panelists will explore topics from pre-kindergarten to high school in an era of reform and reductions.

Randi Weingarten and Dan Weisberg will consider how education reform attempts are defining effective teaching. Other experts will discuss the recently released common standards, and look at President Obama's agenda for early childhood education. And we will cover essential skills for education reporters, like interviewing children and understanding education research.

We’ll offer optional multimedia training, tips on how to tell compelling stories about education, and a look at what happens to school budgets after the stimulus money is gone.

The Institute covers two hotel nights and most meals for participating reporters. Grants to cover some travel expenses are available. Check out the FAQ for more information.
